History
The Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca of Saint Finbar is located in Burbank, California and is one of the city's most successful dance programs. Director Amy Navarrete organized the group in 1987 with only six members which has now flourished to 53. The members' ages range from 3 years old up to 35 years old. Since Folklorico, having originated in Mexico, was new to this city, it took some time for the group to grow and flourish. As membership grew, the costumes improved, the props became more enriched, and the choreography evolved into the more elaborate and challenging movements the group presents today. Each member, and their family, bring a personal touch and creativity to the Folklorico experience which engage audiences by the deep-rooted culture being expressed in every movement each dancer executes.
Mexico Azteca participates in celebratory events at area malls, theme parks, local schools, parks and churches. The group regularly entertains at annual events such as Saint Finbar's Catholic Church Fiesta as well as both the Burbank and Glendale parades. Most notable events are the Disneyland Park, Magic Mountain Park, Connect with your Community City of Burbank, Los Angeles Feria de Los Ninos, Heritage Week at Griffith Park, Dodger Stadium's Fiesta Night and Knott's Berry Farm, Gene Autry Museum. Other venues include General Hospital, Lowry's California Center, San Fernando Valley Fair, Alex Theater in Glendale, the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium, Pasadena City Hall, Burbank's Human Relations Council, and most homered at Olvera Street Los Angeles Historical Monument.
